Multitasking is a Myth

Multitasking itself is not a myth but the idea that it can make you more productive certainly is!  Multitasking not only makes you less productive, but it makes you more likely to be less than average at everything and great at nothing.  I’ve suspected this for sometime.  Recently I read this by Camille Noe Pagan on Forbes.com that confirmed my theory.  Often we try to do so many things at once, that we don’t stop to give our full attention to any one thing.  It is important to realize this because concentration and clarity are important characteristics of being successful.  Sometimes you need to put the blackberry down, stop checking your email, stop tweeting, and focus on one thing.  Are you a multitasker?  Do you think it makes you more or less productive?

  1. Great post–thanks for mentioning my article!

  2. I am multi-tasker, and find that I am very productive, overall. I mean, at times, I get overwhelmed with doing so many things, simultaneously, but all in all, I get everything done.
