Although the purpose of this blog is to spotlight women who are climbing or who have climbed the corporate ladder, there are women who have dominated other industries and in the process teach us valuable lessons.  Beyoncé is one of those women.  Her recent interview on 60 Minutes was a precursor to winning six Grammy awards in one night.  (The most wins by a female artist in one night.)  In this interview, she briefly talks about her drive to succeed.  “It takes discipline and it takes focus” is one of the things she says.  I wholeheartedly agree with her.  In order to achieve whatever goal you are working towards, it will certainly take some discipline and focus.  Penelope Trunk recently wrote a post called “Frugality is a Career Tool”.  Although her post is mostly about money, I think being frugal with one’s time is even more important.  It is vital that you manage your time well time to achieve your goals.  If you want to lose weight, you have to choose to spend your time exercising instead of laying on your couch.  If you want to get good grades in school, you must choose to study instead of party.  Lastly, if you want to climb the corporate ladder, you must choose to spend your time performing well at work, creating and maintaining a positive reputation, and honing your craft.  Beyoncé confirms that she is ambitious, focused, and a type A personality.

Are you disciplined?  Are you focused?  What do you do to stay focused?  How do you stay motivated?
